It will directly benefit the 25 employees at the recovery center and engage over 100 large-scale waste generators, including prominent local hotels and businesses. Indirectly, the project’s positive effects on public health and environmental quality will be felt by the canton’s nearly 72,000 inhabitants, bolstering the region’s reputation as a leader in sustainable practices.
Beyond the technological upgrades, the project incorporates a significant environmental education component. This program is specifically aimed at large commercial generators, instructing them on best practices for separating waste at the source. The goal is to foster a culture of co-responsibility in waste management, ensuring that cleaner, better-sorted materials enter the recycling stream, thereby maximizing their value and reusability.
With an execution timeline of 12 months, the Santa Cruz initiative aims to do more than just improve local statistics.
