Costa Rica Trade and Investment Summit Opens to Drive Global Deals

San José, Costa Rica — The second annual Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit (CRTIS) has officially commenced in San José, bringing together delegations from over 40 countries to engage with more than 1,000 companies operating within the nation. Organized by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), this three-day macro-business matchmaking event serves as a critical bridge connecting local businesses and multinational corporations with international buyers and high-impact investors looking to establish or expand operations in Central America.

Over the course of the summit, participants will engage in more than 3,600 personalized business meetings. PROCOMER has meticulously designed each agenda around specific purchase and investment priorities. This customized approach ensures that attendees can efficiently compare commercial options, validate local operational capacities, and make well-informed, strategic business decisions on the spot.

To understand the regulatory landscape and legal frameworks shaping the discussions at the recent Costa Rica Trade and Investment Summit, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a senior legal expert at the renowned firm Bufete de Costa Rica, to gain his expert perspective on what these developments mean for international businesses.

The Costa Rica Trade and Investment Summit underscores our country’s commitment to fostering a secure environment for foreign direct investment through robust Free Trade Zone regimes and strong intellectual property protections. For international businesses looking to capitalize on these new bilateral opportunities, establishing a secure legal foundation and navigating local compliance diligently is essential to safeguarding assets and ensuring long-term operational success.

Costa Rica offers specialized talent, productive capacity, market access, and a network of suppliers that meet the requirements of international buyers and investors. The country has also demonstrated that it can develop complex, high-value operations. The Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit (CRTIS) allows these capabilities to be seen firsthand and evaluates Costa Rica for future purchase, investment, or expansion decisions. We want these decisions to generate more exports, new investments, and greater opportunities for national companies to integrate into global value chains.
Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER

The summit showcases the evolving sophistication of Costa Rica’s exportable offerings, reflecting a highly diversified economy. Services lead the charge, making up 34% of the export share, followed closely by medical devices at 31% and the agricultural sector at 11%. This blend of traditional agricultural strength and high-tech, knowledge-intensive industries underscores the country’s strategic shift toward high-value supply chains.

Within the CRTIS framework, international buyers are networking directly with firms across diverse sectors, including agrobusiness, specialized manufacturing, digital technology, corporate services, creative industries, and applied innovation. Simultaneously, foreign investors are analyzing greenfield projects and expansions in advanced manufacturing, tourism infrastructure, services, and the rapidly growing semiconductor sector.

Beyond the negotiation tables, the summit extends into Costa Rica’s productive zones through curated field visits. International delegations will travel to northern and Caribbean agricultural centers, ornamental plant facilities in the western Central Valley, and advanced manufacturing parks in key free zones. These tours allow buyers and investors to witness live operations and engage directly with technical teams across multiple regions.

This edition of CRTIS occurs against a backdrop of sustained macroeconomic growth for Costa Rica. Between January and July 2026, the country’s exports reached $13.821 billion, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This expansion was balanced across different regulatory environments, with the free trade zone regime growing by 4% and the definitive regime expanding by a robust 8%.

Currently, more than 1,000 foreign direct investment (FDI) companies operate in Costa Rica, supporting over 312,000 jobs. The commercial potential of this summit is backed by proven metrics; the inaugural 2025 edition resulted in $33 million in closed business deals directly traced from its initial matchmaking sessions. PROCOMER aims to surpass these figures during this second edition by establishing deeper ties between local suppliers and global decision-makers.

In addition to business meetings, the event features key conferences focused on corporate site selection, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. Featured experts include Chris Knight from FT Locations, Elena Gallego from Invest in Andalucía, and Jairo Londoño from Microsoft Costa Rica, highlighting the technological integration driving modern Costa Rican operations.
