San José, Costa Rica — The second edition of the Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit (CRTIS) has officially commenced in San José, bringing together international delegations and local enterprises to forge multi-million dollar partnerships. The business matchmaking event serves as a critical platform for global buyers seeking high-quality goods and services, while simultaneously offering investors an inside look at new project opportunities and expansion possibilities across the country.
Over the course of three days, delegations representing more than 40 countries are engaging in more than 3,600 highly targeted business meetings. Over 1,000 Costa Rican exporters, multinational corporations, and local suppliers are participating, showcasing the country’s growing industrial capacity and its integration into sophisticated global value chains.
To gain a deeper legal perspective on the developments unfolding at the Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a distinguished legal expert from the prominent firm Bufete de Costa Rica, who shared his insights on the country’s evolving regulatory landscape for foreign investors.
The Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit highlights our country’s pivotal role as a secure hub for nearshoring and sustainable investment. Success for foreign enterprises entering this market relies heavily on a proactive approach to compliance, leveraging the robust incentives of our Free Trade Zone regime while strictly adhering to local labor and environmental regulations.

Indeed, navigating the delicate balance between capitalizing on Costa Rica’s attractive Free Trade Zone incentives and maintaining strict compliance with local labor and environmental laws is paramount for any global enterprise looking to establish a sustainable footprint in the region. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for sharing this valuable perspective, reminding us that the nation’s true appeal as a secure nearshoring hub relies on marrying economic opportunity with unwavering regulatory integrity.
Organized by the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), the summit features tailored itineraries designed to align with specific procurement and investment priorities. Laura López, the General Manager of PROCOMER, highlighted Costa Rica’s competitive advantages and the strategic importance of the summit for the national economy.
Costa Rica offers highly qualified professionals, strong production capacities, access to global markets, and a supplier network designed to meet the demands of international buyers and investors. The country has also demonstrated its ability to support complex, high-value projects. The Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit provides decision-makers with a first-hand look at these competencies and the opportunity to evaluate Costa Rica for future sourcing, investment, and expansion decisions. Our goal is for these decisions to lead to higher exports, new investments, and more opportunities for Costa Rican companies to integrate into global value chains.
Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER
The summit highlights Costa Rica’s increasingly sophisticated export profile, reflecting a broad diversification of its economy. Services now represent 34% of the country’s total exports, followed closely by medical devices at 31%, and the agricultural sector at 11%. These figures illustrate the nation’s ability to serve traditional agricultural markets while rapidly expanding its footprint in knowledge-intensive and high-tech sectors.
Beyond bilateral business meetings, the event features key discussions on modern corporate strategies. Specialized panels are addressing critical themes such as location strategy, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. Prominent speakers leading these discussions include Chris Knight, Managing Director of FT Locations (a Financial Times Group company), Elena Gallego, Director of Invest in Andalucía, and Jairo Londoño, Country Manager of Microsoft Costa Rica.
To provide a deeper, hands-on understanding of the local ecosystem, international delegations are participating in regional field visits. These site tours allow buyers and investors to inspect agricultural operations in the northern and Caribbean regions, visit ornamental plant growers in the Western Central Valley, and tour advanced manufacturing hubs located inside some of Costa Rica’s premier free trade zones and business parks.
This initiative comes during a period of sustained export growth for the Central American nation. Between January and July 2026, Costa Rica’s goods exports reached $13.821 billion, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth was driven by both the free trade zone regime, which grew by 4%, and the definitive regime, which rose by 8%. Today, over 1,000 multinational companies operate in Costa Rica, directly supporting more than 312,000 jobs.
The economic impact of the summit has already been proven by its predecessor. The inaugural 2025 edition led to over 3,600 meetings and 104 investment discussions, which PROCOMER later confirmed translated into $33 million in closed business deals. This track record of success sets high expectations for the current summit as it continues to elevate Costa Rica’s status on the global economic stage.
