The ICT attributes this remarkable increase directly to the establishment and maintenance of permanent air connectivity to both of the country’s main international airports, facilitating year-round travel for Canadian tourists.
Both major international gateways have experienced substantial increases in passenger traffic. Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Guanacaste led the way with a remarkable 14.9% growth in international arrivals, reflecting the region’s immense popularity. Meanwhile, the country’s largest airport, Juan Santamaría International Airport, also posted a solid 7.9% increase, indicating widespread growth across the nation’s primary entry points.
The economic impact of this tourism boom is profound. Data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica shows that in 2025, the sector generated approximately $5.54 billion in foreign currency.
