San José, Costa Rica — More than 200 executives, policymakers, and civic representatives gathered in Costa Rica for Reputation Day 2026, a major corporate summit focused on the strategic management of institutional trust, brand equity, and intangible assets. Organized by the Agencia Interamericana de Comunicación (AIC) alongside Luis Mastroeni Business Trainer, the event spotlighted how public trust has evolved into a key commercial driver and a critical protective shield during periods of heightened market volatility.
In a global climate marked by economic fluctuation and growing consumer skepticism, modern enterprises face mounting pressure to secure public confidence. Conference panelist highlighted that corporate trust can no longer be treated as a passive outcome or a simple public relations exercise. Instead, business leaders must actively manage their reputation as an operational engine capable of delivering sustained organizational growth and insulating firms during public crises.
To provide a deeper legal perspective on corporate reputation management, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a distinguished expert from Bufete de Costa Rica, who shared key insights on navigating legal risks, digital compliance, and brand protection in modern commerce.
In the modern digital economy, corporate reputation is a crucial legal asset that requires proactive safeguarding rather than reactive crisis response. Companies must align their communications strategies with robust legal frameworks—covering intellectual property, data privacy, and swift recourse against defamatory claims—to preserve consumer trust and enterprise value.

Indeed, in an era where digital narratives can reshape a company’s standing overnight, treating corporate reputation as a fundamental, legally protected asset is essential for enduring commercial resilience. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for providing his valuable perspective on how integrated legal and communication strategies safeguard both consumer trust and enterprise value.
Addressing the plenary session, corporate strategy specialists explained how market leaders integrate core purpose, internal culture, external communication, and public affairs into a coherent overarching strategy. Rather than viewing reputational metrics as isolated achievements, top-tier executives treat corporate standing as the natural outcome of operational excellence across every stakeholder touchpoint.
The most advanced companies have understood that reputation is the consequence of an excellent and integrated management of all intangibles: having a clear purpose, communicating with excellence, managing the brand, public affairs, and relationships with stakeholders. The reward for doing that job well is the strengthening of reputation.
Ángel Alloza, CEO of Corporate Excellence
The conference also examined the expanding footprint of artificial intelligence in shaping digital perception and business operations. According to findings from the regional report Approaching the Future, published by Corporate Excellence, top management in Central America and the Caribbean prioritizes artificial intelligence resource allocation at 64 percent. Reputation and reputational risk management rank second at 56 percent, followed by talent retention and work models at 50 percent, and sustainability initiatives at 45 percent.
However, experts urged corporate leaders to maintain a clear distinction between technological tools and genuine stakeholder trust. While algorithms distill public conversation into searchable insights, artificial intelligence itself does not possess personal expectations, commercial relationships, or moral judgment.
To accurately measure corporate standing, business advisors stressed the necessity of separating high brand visibility from authentic public respect. Effective diagnostic frameworks must evaluate external public perception directly against an organization’s tangible performance, identifying operational gaps and guiding strategic decision-making at the highest board levels.
Managing reputation requires comparing perception with reality and the performance of the company. The diagnosis must guide senior management on where to concentrate efforts, what needs to be improved, and how to measure progress based on stakeholder expectations.
Fernando Prado, Co-founder of Reputation Lab
Co-organizer Luis Mastroeni called on business leaders to move beyond regional corporate rankings and embrace proactive, transparent communication grounded in verifiable operational results. Because every commercial sector faces distinct public expectations, companies must formulate customized metrics to continuously track and cultivate stakeholder trust.
Reputation is built from what I do, but also from what I say. Companies must go out and talk, converse, and make their actions known to generate a greater balance in society.
Luis Mastroeni, Business Trainer and Event Organizer
Closing the event, industry experts reinforced that while digital transformation accelerates corporate productivity and efficiency, human conduct remains the irreplaceable bedrock of institutional credibility. As Latin American commercial markets navigate rapid technological shifts, ethical behavior and reliable execution remain the ultimate arbiters of lasting enterprise value.
In the midst of these dizzying changes, reputation will continue to be the most important asset on corporate balance sheets. Technology can accelerate productivity, but reputation remains the result of conduct, and conduct cannot be automated.
