Panamanian Electrical Giant Electrisa Charges into Costa Rica with a Multi Million Dollar Retail Investment

San José, Costa Rica — In a landmark move marking its first venture outside its home market, Panamanian electrical supply leader Electrisa has officially entered Costa Rica. Operating under the localized brand name Electricast, the company is injecting an initial investment exceeding $6 million to establish a robust retail, technological, and logistical footprint in the country. This strategic decision is designed to transplant more than four decades of commercial expertise from Panama to the competitive Costa Rican market.

The expansion reflects a calculated strategy based on Costa Rica’s resilient macroeconomic indicators and its historic commercial ties with Electrisa’s existing partner network. Company leadership views the nation as a gateway for broader regional integration due to its diverse and expanding economic drivers.

We see Costa Rica as a strategic market within our regional expansion vision. We identified a solid economic environment and growth opportunities driven by factors such as foreign investment, free zones, tourism, construction, industry, and commerce.
Eddie Castellanos, General Manager of Electrisa

Electricast did not leap blindly into the retail landscape. The company tested the local market over the last two years through a business-to-business (B2B) model focused on specialized industrial projects. This introductory phase evolved in March 2025 when operations transitioned directly under the Electricast brand, allowing the corporate team to study consumer behavior, local regulatory frameworks, and distribution dynamics firsthand.

The first stage allowed us to confirm that there is demand for close, agile, and responsive attention. That gave us the confidence to take the next step with our local store.
Eddie Castellanos, General Manager of Electrisa

The physical cornerstone of this expansion is a newly acquired, 1,400-square-meter facility. This wholly-owned property integrates corporate offices, a high-capacity warehouse, and an immersive retail showroom designed to showcase the brand’s extensive electrical portfolio. By acquiring rather than leasing the property, the firm is signaling its intention to remain a permanent fixture in the local business ecosystem.

We entered to stay. An investment of this magnitude is not made to leave tomorrow; we are making it to grow in Costa Rica and build a long-term operation.
Eddie Castellanos, General Manager of Electrisa

The company’s long-term roadmap also includes the establishment of a specialized electrical panel assembly workshop that meets stringent UL safety standards, replicating a successful service model already operating in Panama. This addition will bring advanced technical capabilities directly to Costa Rican clients, enhancing local project execution times and compliance standards.

A key competitive differentiator for Electricast is its aggressive inventory strategy. Rather than relying on just-in-time factory deliveries, the company is stocking approximately 3,000 unique stock-keeping units (SKUs) locally. This heavy upfront inventory commitment, managed by Country Manager Wilfredo González, is designed to minimize lead times for contractors and developers who cannot afford project delays.

Furthermore, parent operations in Panama will serve as a logistical safety net. If a specific product is temporarily unavailable in Costa Rica, Electricast can transfer stock from its massive Panamanian warehouses within a rapid window of 48 to 60 hours. This supply-chain agility aims to serve an incredibly broad customer base, ranging from individual homeowners tackling residential upgrades to major industrial developers and public infrastructure contractors.

As of late 2026, Electricast employs 19 collaborators in Costa Rica and is actively recruiting to fill specialized technical and sales roles. While the immediate priority remains stabilizing the flagship San José showroom, the company plans to replicate the scale of its Panamanian network—which boasts 365 employees and nine branches—by opening additional Costa Rican locations in high-growth economic hubs. This expansion represents the inaugural step in a broader vision to build a unified Central American distribution network.
