Alajuela, Costa Rica — In a significant boost to connectivity and tourism, Southwest Airlines has inaugurated a new direct flight route between Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International Airport and Orlando, Florida. This daily service commenced in June, marking a pivotal moment in strengthening the ties between Costa Rica and the United States.
This route is expected to significantly increase the flow of visitors, further cementing Costa Rica’s status as a premier destination for both tourists and business travelers.
We are very excited about this new direct flight between San José and Orlando. It will bring much more connectivity for the people of San José with the rest of the United States and vice versa. We believe it is a significant additional commitment to our partnership here.
Emily Vanderstraaten, Southwest Airlines’ Marketing Manager
The flight schedule is designed to accommodate both tourists and business travelers.
Departing from San José at 8:55 a.m., the flight arrives in Orlando at 2:15 p.m. The return flight departs Orlando at 11:30 a.m., arriving back in Costa Rica at 12:45 p.m.
This new route not only underscores the growing importance of Costa Rica as a central hub for travel but also enhances its appeal as a business destination. Over the past decade, the number of tourists from the United States has surged by nearly 50%, with over 1.4 million visitors arriving by air in the last year alone.
At AERIS, we are proud to welcome the first direct flight from Southwest Airlines from Orlando. This new connection testifies to the growth and importance of Juan Santamaría International Airport at both the national and regional levels.
Ricardo Hernández Larios, Executive Director of AERIS
Costa Rica’s strategic location and robust infrastructure make it an attractive destination for international companies looking to establish a foothold in Central America.
The enhanced connectivity provided by Southwest Airlines’ new route will further facilitate business operations, making Costa Rica an even more appealing choice for corporate investments and business expansions.
As the country continues to grow as a hub for both tourism and business, the new route is poised to play a crucial role in its development.
The direct flight to Orlando not only offers convenience but also strengthens Costa Rica’s position as a leading destination in Central America.
