This event is a key component of a strategic decentralization initiative launched by the MCJ in 2025. By design, the strategy seeks to diversify cultural offerings and extend national resources beyond the Central Valley. Recognizing local communities as the authentic authors of their own cultural expressions, the festival shifts the focus away from traditional performance halls and directly into regional territories.
Culture lives where the people are and where communities keep their traditions alive. Festival Folclore Latido allows us to meet in Parrita to recognize that folklore goes far beyond a staging: it is in the music, the dance, the knowledge, the memory, and in what we share from generation to generation. We want a close, participatory culture with the communities as protagonists.

Highlights include regional and popular musical acts, traditional dance troupes, and a unique curated exhibition titled Vestir la escena. This exhibition explores the memory, craftsmanship, and history of Costa Rican theatrical costuming, offering a deeper look into the visual elements of performance art.

At the CTP of Parrita, specialized workshops will offer hands-on instruction in traditional Caribbean Calypso led by musician Claudio Taylor, Costa Rican Swing Criollo, and contemporary movement directed by the National Dance Company. Additionally, talks focused on intangible cultural heritage will explore its critical connection to regional tourism development.
As the festival establishes its footing, its itinerant nature ensures that other regions will benefit in the coming years. After launching its first edition in 2025 across Chachagua, Sarchí, and Atenas, the festival moves to Parrita for 2026, and organizers have already confirmed that Bagaces, Guanacaste, will serve as the host city for 2027. This rotating model guarantees that the heartbeat of Costa Rican folklore continues to resonate across the entire country.
